Hello! I'm back to where i left off series of unfortunate event part 3!
^ The picture above was taken immediately when i first landed in Melbourne.
Sent this to my mom as it was my first time flying alone and I didn't want my mom to be worried.
If you realise... my sister is wearing a furry coat. The weather was really, beyond cold for spring.
I wore jeans and a simple black top along with a cardigan and.... i froze to death.
It was fine... until we got outdoor. Who would have thought? It wasn't just chilly, it was windy and rainy.
Even with the rain you'd think its cold but whenever the wind blew, it was really bad.
I felt like my knees were gone, internal organs were shivering (no, im not kidding but it was probably my muscles hahahaha) all i wanted to do was to wear something thicker.
Since the airport was nearer to the city, we decided to head right to the city and  not go home since it'd be a waste of fuel and time. I wanted to make full use of my 10days there since 1 of which would be wasted
as my sister would be going for some church event and I didn't like the idea of her friends bringing me around instead. I can be really shy with strangers and I didn't want to have an awkward situation as well.

As you can see the weather was rather gloomy and it was drizzling too. This is taken from my sister's car .
They have electrical cables all around, something that we don't have in Singapore.
Some people would say it's a beautiful sight while others would say it's not.
Something special was that the trams "share" the road with the other vehicles.
Here comes the unfortunate part....
As my sister hardly travels to the city, since she was there to study...
we were having a good conversation and there was a police car behind us. The police car was behind us all along, and there was a tram in front and it stopped but there was no one boarding or alighting so
my sister drove passed and we didn't realise that there was a sign that says STOP popping out of the door of the tram, but we genuinely had no idea we had to stop. SO.....
with the police behind... he didn't use the siren but he flashed the lights of the strobe.
My sister said that that's how they stop you. After that... we were really quite angry/sad.
Well it wasn't intentional but yeah. Honestly, the fine was hefty. I would say its really expensive for a fine.
It was close to $400AUD. :C it totally killed my mood for the day but instead of being upset and worried
why not just enjoy the day and we'll see how things go when we receive the fine.
So we went for brunch and had a rather bad brunch :c i ordered the wrong thing
it was totally not to my liking so... i ate a little of my sister's food and that all.
Everything was super pricey. It was pretty shocking when mineral water costed more than carbonated/flavoured drinks. On average a bottle of water cost $3 AUD thats about $4SGD
when you purchase them from vending machines and shops unless you go to supermarket and get a carton of bottled water (which we did at last) to leave it in the car so that if we forget to fill our water bottles, we'll just grab it from the car boot and save some money.

This is coles, the supermarket that we visited very frequently ( because of my aunty nature :P)
I love grocery shopping a lot, for snacks, sweets and chocolates
(that explains why i'm fat..right?)
In the picture above, it's quite misty and cold, the weather will drop to a single digit at night at maybe 8 Degrees or something so it was cooooooooold

I was craving for Churros, and so my sister drove me to melbourne central to get me churros.
We didn't manage to finish the churros because it was too oily after awhile.
I wanted just plain old churros coated with cinnamon sugar but when my sister popped back to the car with icing sugar coated churros and chocolate dip, i got a shock!
Everything I can remember of is that everything is expensive in Melbourne!
Except for Pizza and maybe electronics and home appliances.
We had Dominos and it was really cheap compared to singapore.
We shared a pizza, and drinks it only cost us $15AUD? whereas in singapore
it could have easily be around $30SGD.

Super adorable kids at the melbourne SEA aquarium i believe they are called Riley and Mia
I remember them because Riley accidentally hugged the wrong person, he thought that i was his dad/mom so when he looked up his expression was priceless.
It was my first time to an aquarium
I got to touch the star fish too!

This is taken in Melbourne city, as you can see in the picture, the trams!
I wonder if anyone has gotten into an accident with the trams since the trams get to go around the city and its literally inbetween shops!

There is this alley in melbourne city, with pretty graffiti all over.
It was a mandatory touristy shot!

This is Flinders station, its really pretty isn't it?
It looks like the "european" style station, which we can hardly find in singapore
Our MRT station looks really modern and simple.

Ending off with a candid picture of me taken by my sister when i was literally RUNNING
to seek shelter in the shop where we were going to dine at.
Seeking shelter not because of the rain or anything it was because of the cold.
It was TOO DARN COLD to walk, the breeze is really C O L D.

Again... another plot twist in my life.
I thought i would have done better, too disappointed, too upset.
I was just hoping to just do well enough to get me into my ideal course,
mass communications/ mass media. I really want to get in and do what i like.
Fingers crossed, I hope that I'll be short listed for interview and secure a spot in mass media.
After crying and questioning why  the little improvement I believe god has plans for me.
Even though I might not be academically inclined, I might have another skill or talent that I have yet to discover. Maybe my laziness has diminished it but I hope and I will choose to be positive
about things in life. What is meant to be is meant to be.

The head of a company survived 9/11 because

His son started kindergarten.
Another fellow was alive because it was
His turn to bring donuts.
One woman was late because her
Alarm clock didn’t go off in time.
One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike
Because of an auto accident.
One of them
Missed his bus.
One spilled food on her clothes and had to take
Time to change.
One’s
Car wouldn’t start.
One couldn’t
Get a taxi.
The one that struck me was the man
Who put on a new pair of shoes that morning,
Took the various means to get to work but before.
He got there, he developed a blister on his foot.
He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid.
That is why he is alive today..
Now when I am
Stuck in traffic,
Miss an elevator,
Turn back to answer a ringing telephone…
All the little things that annoy me,
I think to myself,
This is exactly where
I’m meant to be
At this very moment "

To anyone who is feeling down and pessimistic just like how i was...
I hope this helps you. This is exactly where I'm meant to be at this very moment.
All I can do is to pray and wait for the results of the postings.

XOXO,
Velene.

Hello there, I have decided to start a new blog to record my ups and downs and also
to help me keep track of things and of my life.
I haven't have time to make changes to default theme and plain boring background
Recently, I flew to Melbourne, Australia to look for my sister and also
to escape from Singapore after finishing my last O level paper, the science MCQ.
Since it was only an hour, I had plenty of time since my flight was at 10P.M
Took a two hour nap, or I should say *cough* I slept for two hours.
After waking up, I went to pack my luggage.
I did my "homework" and checked the weather forecast while packing my luggage.
Thinking that it is still spring, why not I just pack some shorts and short sleeved shirt
since it might get quite warm if I packed long sleeves also, since it was last minute packing
my long sleeve shirts are all not washed and I did not want to pack them.
After packing, we quickly finished our dinner and headed to the airport.
I would say this trip has taught me many things, that you can't learn from the textbook.
I shall list down the many troubles that I have met.
Firstly, I booked my tickets on impulse (perhaps, hastily)
Because of that, I probably missed out on the "instructions" on the website.
I left out my chinese name aka my first name.
so it was processed as velene yeoh on my airticket which is not what it is like on
my passport. Only after my receipt was emailed to my email did I realise my mistake.
So I called up emirates to make and enquiry regarding the name change.
Because I paid via E-nets, and also because Dubai was having a whole week of holiday
I did not receive my E-ticket and they did not receive my payment so it was considered
my ticket was under reservation but not confirmed.
I was of course, afraid. I was scared that the payment did not go through
or might have gone somewhere else. So I called up emirates almost everyday
for approximately 8-9 days spending about one hour daily.
It was definitely frustrating. Some of the staff at the call centre over at emirates
are not very helpful which really irritated me.
They just wouldn't assist me with the name change I needed.
One of the staff simply told me " oh its not possible to get it done, at all."
I felt angry, angry at myself for the mistake and also angry at the staff.
While the others told me, they will have to charge me at 100 dollars to get it changed.
I did not want to pay to get it changed but I knew that if I don't I might have to
go through even more unnecessary trouble.
Fortunately, I called through a lady at emirates who was willing to try to help me
process my request to get my name changed.
She wrote in to different departments to see if they could do anything to help.
I am really thankful for her effort to write in to other department to ask for help since
it wasn't within my means, its not like I could directly contact the other departments.
However, even after she wrote in, the name change wasn't processed.
Finally I called in and told the last staff at the call centre firmly
that I would not pay for the name change and its not my fault since
I called in even before the ticket was issued so they should be able to get it changed
but they did not do so and let the ticket get processed.
Tadah! Finally, the ticket was amended and issued.
Secondly, After checking in online, I headed to the emirates counter at the airport
to check in my baggage. Who would have known? Part two of my list of unfortunate events.
I did not apply for visa to enter Australia, I didn't even know that we need a visa to enter.
I swear,  my jaws dropped immediately on the spot.
But fortunately the staff at the counter told me that I could get an e-visa for fifty dollars.
phew! I did not mention that I was flying to Melbourne did I?
I will leave my part three of my list of unfortunate events in another post, when I blog about
how i spent my days there!
Moral of the story? Never book your air ticket hastily! Do your research before flying.

velene
